Sue Thomas is a Deaf woman with the ability to read lips. She moves to Washington, D.C. to begin her new job as an FBI agent and discovers that her new job is not all it's cracked up to be. Due to an out-of-date directory, she accidentally vents her disappointment to Special Agent Jack Hudson, who is impressed by her honesty and tests her skills by having her read a colleague's lips, discovering he is planning a weekend away with a woman. Jack asks Sue to join his Unit of Special Investigators, where she discovers that her new friend Lucy is the girlfriend of Myles, the man Sue saw earlier planning a trip with a different woman.

Meg is informed by Teresa to be wary of Jimmy Riley. J.J. gets upset when he finds out Beth applied to Stanford. Helen tries to find a class that will fit her busy schedule at Temple. A Rumor starts circulating about Meg and Jimmy Riley "doing it", which Roxanne thinks is great, because it means Meg's important now. J.J. hears Beth's father call him a "Catholic kid from West Philly" to his country-club friends. Meg is asked out on her first date by Jimmy Riley and she readily accepts. While J.J. dominates the competition in his return to the gridiron.

The candy is traced back to the Red Robins, seemingly a school club in the same manner as Girl Scouts who make record sales of their award-winning taffy. In reality, the Robins strong-arm their competition, and the Safety Patrol have been trying to catch them in the act for a long time. Ingrid goes undercover as a Red Robin, but Vallejo isn't convinced she's the right person for the job and suspects something might go wrong.

Uncle has traced another talisman power, this one to Hawaii. In Hawaii, Jackie, Jade, and Uncle trace the power to the pet Japanese monkey of a visiting Japanese dignitary. Daolon (without The Dark Chi Enforcers) arrives and startles the monkey who shape-shifts away. Bedlam ensues as Jackie and Daolon track the morphing monkey around the island. When the Monkey King arrives, Daolon inadvertently gives our heroes the interference they need to escape with the magical simian. Daolon uses a spell to return the Monkey King to his puppet state.

Ban and Ginji are out of jobs and are starving to death. However, a homeless man, named Yamamura, gives them food as well as shelter. He later reveals that he used to be a factory owner, but his daughter, Rika Yamamura, was kidnapped, due to continuous recessions and pressure from the yakuza henchmen. Yamamura then asks Ban and Ginji to retrieve Rika from the yakuza henchmen. After the GetBackers infiltrate the mansion to save her, Rika betrays them, admitting that she has every thing she needs from the yakuza henchmen. However, the yakuza henchmen admit that they planned on taking her as well as forcing her father to sell her. Using Evil Eye, Ban causes Rika to dream of the yakuza henchmen leader killing both Ban and Ginji, but then witnesses the yakuza henchmen being burned alive. Once she wakes up, Ginji try to convince Rika to return to her father, much to their chagrin. Yamamura later suffers a fatal heart attack, which causes Ban to give him a dream in which Rika comes back for him.

Reba sets aside her pride and accepts a job reporting to Barbra Jean in Brock's dental office. As if things couldn't get any worse, she also finds herself counseling Brock after Barbra Jean complains to Reba that Brock is neglecting her.
