As Scott learns about the perfectly preserved specimens, he discovers they have some unique features that could suggest they are European. And if they were, it would mean European travelers made it to America some 7,000 years ago. It's a shocking revelation--but not as shocking as what Scott learns next--that group of Europeans known as the Solutreans may have been here thousands of years before that, and actually predated Clovis people, who have long been thought to have crossed the Bering Strait land bridge and been America's very first settlers. The key to solving the mystery of just how long ago Europeans were here could be a single artifact--a small stone carving of a mammoth discovered by a man near Vero Beach, Florida that dating suggests is 13,000 years old.

As the projects become more challenging and the father more irritating, Derrick fears Pete's legendary temper will surface, but Pete gets through it by using a technique he learned in Afghanistan called "embracing the suck." All goes well and the projects are finished, but Pete loses it when the father says Pete and his troops are "not real soldiers." In the end, Randy figures out a way for the father to connect with his son. Meanwhile, Jill thinks Cody is taking her out for coffee to talk about her request for enrollment in the Advanced Leader Course, but he just uses her to help spy on his teenage daughter.

The couple, wanting to truly live off the grid, throws Pete a curve ball by asking him for a rainwater shower system, a composting toilet and supply power (where there is none). Surprisingly, Pete delivers a custom gift for the couple's pampered pooch: a 'backyard' high in the air!
