One of the band decides to sell his valuable antique harp to make good some of the shortfall, but before Lovejoy can arrrange the sale the harp also disappears.Lovejoy works his way up to proposing to Victoria, but she turns him down and goes back to South America.

Alec finds out Dimples ""identity"", but keeps quiet as Avonlea school battles it out for the History Championship competition against rival Carmody.

Brandon considers quitting the paper because he is tired of tearing people apart. Several of the athletes are taking steroids to improve their performance. They ask Steve to participate in their ""program,"" which causes him to develop mood swings. Brandon and Andrea decide to conduct an investigation, and Kelly's friend Kyle provides them with details. The track coach cancels all practices until the steroid users come forward. The other guys suspect that Steve was Brandon's source, and threaten to beat him up unless he takes the rap. Brandon allows Brenda to drive his car, but she gets into an accident. The other driver claims to have developed whiplash, and files a lawsuit. A handsome man approaches Freddie and reveals that he is Jamal, her prison pen pal. He has just been released from prison after serving seven years for armed robbery. Freddie is very nervous, but agrees to keep his past a secret. Ron turns over his duties as janitor of Whitley's dorm to Jamal and lets him sleep on his couch. He pays him only $2.50 an hour while keeping the rest of the salary for himself. Jamal hits it off with Whitley, and they set up a date. He tells Whitley the truth about his past. Although she is a little apprehensive, she decides to help him make a fresh start, partially because she is looking for some excitement. Freddie blabs about Jamal's background, causing everyone else to freak out. Ron rummages through Jamal's bag. Dwayne initially criticizes him, then joins in after learning of Jamal's involvement with Whitley. They discover cash and expensive electronic equipment.
