Meanwhile, another scientist named Ilbren is planning to have his way with the Female even going as far as trying to employ Æon to capture the Female offering the Male in return. Their meeting is interrupted by a mechanical tentacle which Ilbren fends off with a swarm of robot wasps. The Male Seraph-Trev is securely held in a separate cell and reduced to a state of abject misery by the separation from his mate. Æon plans to free them from Ilbren and Trevor's designs and to do so she employs an old friend of hers, Una, to translate directions to the Birds' chambers. Una is a social misfit like Æon and has apparently fallen in love with the Male Bird ...

Mera is having a difficult time adjusting to living on the island and Neri leaves her alone while she goes to help with the survey again. Mick gets Froggy to use HELEN to spy on Vanessa's counselling session. The kids on ORCA throw a surprise birthday party for Vanessa but Mick's practical joke results in a dangerous chemical spill and fire. Jason and Brett lead a successful rescue through the air ducts. In the aftermath, it is revealed that Mick has a reading disability. Commander Byrne assigns Mick to Dianne's survey crew. Jason is not happy about his mother's developing relationship with Sam. Dr. Hellegren connects Mera's escape to ORCA.

The guys are now on a mission to save Red Brick Wallace from getting shot by the sheriff, who looks strangely like Chett.
