A young girl is injured in a car accident and rushed to a hospital by the paramedics. Her father who is severely injured is sent to a trauma center instead because he is a more serious case. The father survives and the daughter dies. The difference between a trauma center and an ER was what saved the man. City regulations make it hard for the center to get enough patients and it is about to get closed down unless Quincy can help.

There is a person who Laura met on the train who begins to like Eliza Jane. Eliza Jane in turn begins to like the professor teaching the seminar and the professor likes Laura. The professor tells Laura that her writing is bad when Laura tells him she is happily married. The man on the train eventually defends Laura's writing. It only takes one punch by the man to get the professor to take off and leave.

When it shatters in his efforts to retrieve it, the prophecy is foretold as they learn three women will unite to defeat him. One is Maya, an element-shifter buried in the ruins of the old city of Endorr. Another is Cinda, a hermitic barbarian living in the Canyon of Death whose staff grants her great strength. The last is Valerie Storm, a fashion model from Old Earth who is abducted and taken prisoner by Vashtarr himself.

Country singer Annabel meets old friend Martin, a politician traveling with stiff Barbara. Mary meets veteran Jon while sailing with her father Rich. Gopher fantasizes how he'll spend money he found on deck. In "Jackpot," Gopher accidentally finds an enormous amount of money and starts fantasizing about how life will be. He also becomes overly obsessive about the money, including having a wild dream in which he rules the captain (Gavin MacLeod) and crew. In "Country Blues," a famous folk singer meets a man she knew many years ago who is running for high political office. However, his sophisticated companion (Miss Lawrence) dances to another tune when she becomes jealous of the singing star. A father (Mason Adams) can't believe that his about-to-be-divorced daughter (Miss Oakes) is all grown up and hampers her romantic aspirations with a gentleman (Frank Bonner) who is trying to win her affections in "Daddy's Little Girl."
