It's here that Nash meets Freddie, the apple of Cassidy's eye, the pain in Nash's behind, and learns that Cassidy's decided not to go to college.

Frank enters a hospital emergency room looking for Catherine, who is working the night shift in child counseling. Suddenly, paramedics rush in with a bloodied woman on a gurney. Frank is inexplicably drawn to the stranger, and as he moves closer, notices a curved slash on her palm. He raises his own right hand, revealing a thin white scar which matches exactly the slash on the victim's hand. The woman dies from her injuries.

Tommy and Pam try to just be friends, but their friendship is tested after Tommy meets another beautiful woman. Later that night, stowaway Cole accompanies Pam to the bar, where they begin to drink heavily. The next day Pam wakes up in bed next to Cole and believes that they have slept together. Meanwhile, Martin is awakened by a knock on the door, and finds a half dressed Ellen has come to his stateroom to pay him a visit.

Martin tells Charlie that Bailey might have a drinking problem, but Charlie refuses to accept that idea, even though everybody else thinks so too. Julia breaks up with Sam because he's a racist.

David reacts angrily when Donna decides to leave after the concert instead of going out with Luther, Chloe and him. Donna runs into Cliff at the Peach Pit and agrees to a date. Valerie's mother comes to town and asks her to approve a second mortgage for the family home, as Val is part-owner. Valerie wants nothing to do with the house and orders her mother to sell it, leaving Abby confused. Val is hurt to see Tom with Kelly. Kelly finds her crying in the bathroom. Val admits that she needs Tom and pleads for Kelly to set him free if she doesn't really care for him. The guilt-ridden Kelly breaks up with Tom, who later shares a romantic slow dance with Valerie. Tracy finds the engagement ring

Drew's down-payment on a car bounces because of a bad check at a garage sale. He finds out the woman who wrote the check was Kyra, his junior-high girlfriend. She claims her roommate wrote checks from her account to cover his gambling debt. Drew invites Kyra to stay with him but begins to doubt her when his car is repossessed after her second check bounces.

It's Valentine's Day, and Maxwell decides to diffuse the whole "love" situation with Fran by giving her a gag greeting card. Big mistake. Later, Fran and Sylvia are at the bank when it gets held up. News of the hold-up quickly gets back to the Sheffield household. What the hostages at the bank quickly find out is that the bank robber, Leslie Tilbert, is a meek man and an inept bank robber. Leslie is actually a kind man who is facing some personal stresses, to which Fran can relate. Fran becomes Leslie's negotiator with the authorities, and Leslie becomes Fran's negotiator with Maxwell and his faux pas with the greeting card. If nothing else, the bank robbery has shown Maxwell how he really feels about Fran and he lets her and the world know. Leslie's fate is not as good as he takes Sylvia as his final hostage.
