Fat Friends was an ITV drama, following a group of overweight people, their laughter and pain and addresses the absurdities of dieting in our modern age. The drama looks at people and how they relate to one another and use body weight as an excuse for all sorts of failings in their relationships, or not living their lives to the full. Four of the cast, Ruth Jones, James Corden, Sheridan Smith and Alison Steadman, went on to appear in Gavin & Stacey.

Meanwhile, Ross discovers that his doctoral dissertation is hosted at university's library and is very excited about the fact. Unfortunately, he soon finds out that students aren't exactly reading it, but rather engaging in other 'physical activities' in the paleontology section. Also, Monica runs into Janice and before she knows it, Janice has invited herself to Monica's wedding. Needless to say that neither she nor Chandler are exactly ecstatic about it and they both try to find a way to tactfully uninvite her.

Sean devotes himself to the Jewish faith to fulfill a promise he made to God before his surgery. He breaks up with Meghan for refusing to convert to Judaism. His hospital roommate, a rabbi, convinces him that he has made a mistake. After Dr. McGrath is accused of sexual harassment, a list circulates with the names of students he dated--including Elena.
