Bailey sabotages Julia's audition for the lead singer of a band sending Sarah, who gets the job. And Julia sabotages Bailey's audition for a job, sending Justin, who also gets the job. The couples have a fight and when Bailey receives a letter that says he was accepted in a university in Massachusetts Julia decides to let him have the attic. Claudia takes off her cast and decides to quit violin. The family discusses her decision and she says she just wants to be normal. She says goodbye to her violin, putting it on the shelf.

Kelly is very excited by a visit from her father, who claims to be planning a permanent move to Los Angeles. Jackie and David warn Kelly not to get her hopes up. Bill urges Kelly to give Colin another chance; they stop by Colin's loft, only to find that he is high. Kelly breaks up with him. Bill fails to show for a meeting with Kelly and a realtor, and leaves town without saying goodbye. He leaves Kelly some flowers and a check. Kelly rolls the check and uses it to snort the cocaine stash that Val had confiscated from Colin. Joe has the team doctor check out his injured ankle. The doctor notices something strange in Joe's breathing and recommends that he see a cardiologist. Dr. Martin diagnoses Joe with a congenital heart defect, but the athletic department arranges for a second opinion. The team-sanctioned doctor insists that he is fine, and Joe chooses to believe him. So to make things up, he hires her as the costumer for his next play. What was set for disaster turns out to be quite a hit when Fran asks her cousin, renown designer Todd Oldham, to design the costumes with her.

Alan shies away from Matt after Kimberly shares the sordid details of his past relationships.
