Pearl continues to pursue Mr. Brewster, while a Jasper Depew courts Jethrine. Jed tries to enroll Jethro at an exclusive Beverly Hills elementary school. When the headmistress learns that the Clampetts are neighbors of Mr. Drysdale, who holds the mortgage on the school, she warms up to the idea. There is a bit of a shock when she comes by to pick up Jethro and realizes who will be her new fifth grader.

Chicago. Right after the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. (February 14, 1929.) Ness and his men are scouring Chicago, looking for Bugs Moran. Ness says there used to be 2 gangs in town, now there's just one. Ness figures if they get to Moran first, maybe he'll talk-- he might just be mad enough to give them the information they need.

Barney loses his self-confidence when two unlawful bullies laugh off his attempt to run them out of town. Andy tells them Barney is actually a trigger-happy lawman out for vengeance, but the bullies quickly see through the ruse and Barney now must find the courage within himself to stand up to them.

Fred overhears Wilma on the phone mentioning ""a little stranger"" who will shortly be visiting the household. Assuming that Wilma is pregnant, Fred summon his dreaded mother-in-law. But the ""little stranger"" turns out to be Arnold the paperboy.

Wally and Eddie get jobs at the Mayfield Dairy thanks to Ward pulling some strings. They soon unknowingly find themselves involved in a plot started by the foreman and his assistant who are secretly stealing the merchandise. When Ward learns of the plot, he warns Wally who in turn tries to warn Eddie, but Eddie doesn't buy it.

Damian White, husband of a famous musical comedy star, was seen entering the bungalow around the approximate time of the murder by an eyewitness. But what about all the trick or treaters?

Jed convinces her they should call on them, and they find that people welcome them and give them all manner of gifts when they show up on Halloween in their normal hillbilly clothes. Meanwhile, Jed works on getting Pearl to come visit while she's trying to get hitched to the oilman and find a young man for Jethrine.
