Granny wants to go home because folks are so unfriendly and no one has come to call. Jed convinces her they should call on them, and they find that people welcome them and give them all manner of gifts when they show up on Halloween in their normal hillbilly clothes. Meanwhile, Jed works on getting Pearl to come visit while she's trying to get hitched to the oilman and find a young man for Jethrine.
December 12, 1929. That night, gangster Arnie Kurtz is in a car, watching a hit he ordered. Another car, speeding along and with a chopper blasting, guns down a pedestrian; but the victim pulls a gun and fires back, his bullet goes through the windshield. The car crashes; the driver is dead, but the hitman escapes. Arnie Kurtz goes to establish his alibi; at 10:35, his wife Stella drops in on her brother Benno Fisk, who owns a pawn shop. Stella has a job for him: deliver a payment of 100 Gs to a gangster in Washington, DC, for her hubby Arnie. Benno will be gone for 3-4 days, so Stella takes his 2 pet birds with her; Stella and Arnie are permanent guests at the swanky Lakeview Hotel.
With a storm brewing, Adam takes refuge at a way station, run by cantankerous Jesse and his young grandaughter Marty, who yearns to see what exists away from the way station. The station is also visited by Luke Martin, a killer who is running from a posse. He makes Marty an empty promise to take her with him and see the world together, but Adam steps in and suggests Luke let her alone. Everybody but Marty is relieved to see him go, but he quickly returns and holds everyone hostage to protect himself from the posse.
Two cows suddenly go missing in Mayberry and Mayor Stoner has decided to bring in a professional investigator to solve the crime. The investigator's conclusion goes along with what the rest of the town already suspects, but Andy has his own idea of what happened, an idea just crazy enough to be true.
The only way George can get a vacation out of Mr. Spacely is to accompany Space Cub Troop #54 on their camping trip on the moon. George proceeds to get lost, but is rescued by Mr. Spacely's son, Arthur.

In an attempt to find the mocrofilm Dr King is assigned as her personal doctor, and Steed goes under cover as a steward.
The talking dodo bird that Fred gives Wilma for her birthday turns snitch, informing her that Fred and Barney are plotting to sneak away for a Water Buffalo Convention in Frantic City. Wilma, Betty, and the wives of Bedrock plan a surprise of their own at the convention.
Wally's new girlfriend Carolyn can't go out to the movies on Saturday night because she has to watch her little sister Susan. Carolyn suggests that Beaver take Susan out to the movies and that they all double date. Not wanting to let Wally down, Beaver decides to go along, despite being nervous.

Young cop Jimmy Anderson, cousin of Lt. Anderson, and veteran Otto Norden come across a robbery at the Wilson Plastics Company while on patrol one night. A shooting occurs and Otto is killed. Evidence then points to Jimmy as having been an accomplice in the burglary and he is suspended from the police force. Then the night watchman at Wilson Plastics, a disgraced ex-cop, is found strangled to death. Lt. Anderson then asks Perry to look into things and defend Jimmy against all charges.
Upon Mr. Drysdale's advice to buy good stock, Jed purchases cows, pigs, and chickens to raise. Granny prepares her special mash to help cure Mrs. Drysdale of her drinking problem. Meanwhile, Mrs. Drysdale is convinced she's imagining things, because she sees Granny hovering outside her window and sees a goat and a chicken in her bathroom.
Chicago, December 18, 1930. On the southside of town, Herbie Catcher is playing 8-ball for 50 cents a game, in a dilapidated pool joint. Herbie, not being much of a pool player, gets cleaned out by Cooker. Herbie's best friend is Josh, a nice black man who happens to be blind, who is the employee working in the pool hall. Josh tells him, ""You'd be surprised at the things I can see, I'm an owl in the dark."" (""Owl"" is his nickname.) Since Herbie can't make money shooting pool, and only has a job working as a busboy, he is in the habit of getting a few bucks by giving Eliot Ness tips.

An Indian-hating officer, Colonel Edward J. Dunwoody, comes to the Ponderosa looking for army deserter Bill Winters, who is a good friend of the Cartwrights. Bill happens to be his son and is married to an Indian. It seemed Bill deserted when he was ordered to massacre the Shoshone, by poisoning their food and water, genocide. The Shoshone find out and abduct Bill's father.
Released after eight bitter years in prison, Collie Patten has difficulty adjusting to the fact that things have inevitably changed with respect to his relationships with his wife, his son, and the citizens of Dodge.
Shareholders in Anderson's, a small-arms manufacturers, are being killed one by one whilst a tycoon plans a take-over. Rifles and other weapons, possibly manufactured by Anderson's, are being smuggled into Africa. Cathy Gale joins the board with a 20 per cent share in order to investigate.
The Lodge delegates Fred and Barney depart for a convention at Stone Mountain Ski Resort, leaving their disappointed wives at home. The girls congratulate themselves on being so understanding until they become involved in a big diamond theft and beauty contest at the resort.
