An accident leads a U.S. Marshal and a teenage girl (who later is revealed to be his daughter) to a peculiar town populated by scientists and their families where 10-year-old boys are in 11th grade, the local diner doesn't believe in menus, and E=MC² was just the beginning. Just as the Marshal starts to get settled into the swing of things, a local scientist develops a bomb that seems to appear anywhere and eats all the matter around it.

Our heroes ride a jet belonging to Grandpa Max's old Friend, Donovan Grand Smith, who owns an underwater resort. At the entrance, they receive a warm welcome from Donovan himself, though they also meet with his grandson, Edwin, who didn't seem to be excited about their guests. Later, when Edwin, Ben, and Gwen enter the Undersea Manta Ray, a giant submarine, they encounter strange aliens that threatened to destroy the whole resort. While the kids find a way to cooperate with each other to find the source that lures them in, Donovan himself learns a few lessons in how to bond better with his grandson.

Mike first heads off to California to help tear down a dam so trout on the endangered species list can spawn. Mike then goes to Pennsylvania to restore a church's pipe organ, a process that takes a total of eight years to complete. Finally, Mike goes to Puget Sound in Washington to harvest geoduck clams, otherwise known as "gooey ducks".
