Nicholas even has a broken leg from Teddy pushing him off the bed! Meantime, big sister Kate, four, is sometimes overshadowed by her brothers' pandemonium. She copes by compulsively lying about painful foot cramps to get attention -- everything stops in the household when she is "stricken." She also manages to have the twins get blamed for her own misbehavior, but her parents have no idea they are being duped.

Annabeth prosecutes a case involving a gangster who resorts to violence to prevent a key witness from testifying against him. When the defendant realizes that Annabeth might be able to convince a jury to convict him of the crimes he is accused of, he then has members of his gang threaten to harm Annabeth's daughter in order to scare her from trying the case.

Meanwhile, Cory is studying genetics and finds a hair on his back and when he sees the hair on his dad's back he is afraid he will have a back filled with hair.

While investigating, Jack realises that Max was having an affair, and that he's gotten much deeper into a case than he should have following the murder of his partner, Jimmy, a man Max had felt was too green for undercover work. Both Jack and Ann fear the worst as the team tries to hunt down Max.
